Matters Update

This update is the biggest change to Matters since they launched. Matters are now first-class workspaces with their own Overview, Medical, Insights, Search, Chat, and Settings — no more waiting on a "Provisioning your matter…" screen, and no more hunting around the master record to find matter-level work. Matter-specific analyses like QME Report Analysis now live under the AI Assistant as Insights you can run on the whole matter or on a single document. Focus has been retired inside matters in favor of this new structure, while standalone Records keep Focus exactly as before.

A First-Class Matter Workspace

Every matter now has its own dedicated workspace with a left-hand sidebar covering Overview, Medical, Insights, Search, Chat, and Settings. Matters open immediately and let you work in each section as it becomes ready, instead of blocking the whole page on background processing.

  • Matter Sidebar: A dedicated sidebar replaces the old grab-bag of links, with Overview, Medical, Insights, Search, Chat, and Settings each as their own first-class page.
  • No More Provisioning Wall: Matters open right away — per-section readiness is shown in the section that's still processing, rather than blocking the entire matter.
  • Citation Preview Panel: A side panel opens the cited source in place, so you can verify a citation without losing your spot in the matter.
  • Cleaner Cross-Matter Navigation: Switching between matters no longer leaks one matter's open citation or PDF preview into another.

Matter Insights

Matter-specific analyses — including QME Report Analysis — have moved out of custom sections and into the AI Assistant as Insights. Insights can be generated against the whole matter or against a single document, and they're produced as proper, downloadable reports.

  • Insights in the AI Assistant: A new Insights tab inside each matter, with a detail page per generated insight.
  • Run on a Matter or a Single Document: Choose whether an insight reasons over the whole matter or over a specific document you select.
  • Preferred File Classifications: Insight templates can specify which file classifications they prefer, so the right documents are surfaced automatically.
  • DOCX and PDF Downloads: Generated insights download as both DOCX and PDF, with citations rendered cleanly one per line.
  • QME Report Analysis, Per Document: The former QME Report Analysis custom section is now a per-document Insight, available to run on any qualifying document in a matter.

Matter Search

Search is now a top-level page inside every matter, alongside Medical, Insights, and Chat. Existing search history carries over automatically — nothing to re-run.

  • Matter-Level Search Page: Dedicated search inside the matter shell, separate from record-level search.
  • History Preserved: Prior search history on the matter's master record carries over to the new matter-search experience.
  • Standalone Record Search Unchanged: Records outside a matter keep the existing record-level search.

Matter Sharing

Sharing is now anchored to the matter itself, with a Sharing UI directly in Matter Settings. Existing shares carry over automatically.

  • Share Matters Directly: A new Sharing pane in Matter Settings, separate from record sharing.
  • Existing Shares Carried Over: Anything previously shared at the master-record level is automatically preserved at the matter level.

Matter Chat & AI Assistant

Matter chat picks up the same citation preview, and topic improvements as the rest of the matter shell.

  • Citation Preview in Chat: Click a citation in a matter chat answer to open the source in the side panel.
  • Inline Topic Search: Quickly filter the topics panel without scrolling through the full list.
  • Matter List Excerpts: The matters list now shows a last-message excerpt for each matter so you can see what's in flight at a glance.

Default Matter Templates by Role

New matters can now resolve to your team's default matter template based on the creator's role, so people start in the right place without having to pick a template every time.

  • Role-Based Default Template: Creating a matter without picking a template resolves to the team's configured default for that user's role.
  • Template Archiving: Matter templates can be archived when they're no longer in active use, keeping the picker focused on what's current.

Customizations: Records vs Matters

Templates and the Prompt Library inside Customizations now have Records and Matters subtabs, so it's clear which scope you're configuring.

  • Records and Matters Subtabs: Templates and Prompt Library each split cleanly into Records and Matters scopes.
  • Matter-Scope Editor Controls: Matter-scope items can specify preferred file classifications, document selection mode, and whether they apply to the whole matter or to documents.
  • Existing Record Items Untouched: Everything that was previously in Templates or the Prompt Library remains addressable under the Records subtab.

Focus Inside Matters

Focus is being retired inside matters in favor of the new matter shell, so people don't have to guess whether matter-level work lives behind Focus or somewhere else. Focus remains fully available on standalone Records.

  • Focus Removed From Matters: Master records inside a matter no longer expose a Focus tab — the matter shell is the home for matter-level work.
  • Focus Preserved on Records: Standalone (non-matter) records keep Focus exactly as it worked before.
  • Outputs Regenerated: Master records have Summary, Chronology, Vitals, Medications, and custom sections regenerated under the new configuration so they're consistent with the new experience.
